Why I will never buy Allen Solly again!

One of the greatest mistakes I ever made in my life was buy that blazer from Allen Solly before my Kolkata trip in Feb earlier this year (I didn’t blog about that trip). No the blazer wasn’t bad, it was good enough and at a hefty discount. I Like it

…but then I cant bear daily sms messages from the store in Oberoi Mall bugging me with offers like BUY 3 GET 1 FREE on Women’s wear ..!

  1. I never opted for this SMS spam
  2. There is no easy way to opt out of these irritating messages
  3. I only inquired for a blazer that was not in stock, and the store was supposed to call me when that is in stock. Instead I start receiving these buggy messages. That too daily, at times more than 1 message a day!

These irritating SMSes are one reason I prefer Cleartrip over Yatra aswell. Yatra.com bugs me (though not so often) with these promotional SMSes which I really don’t want.

And you already know why I will move out of Loop Mobile as soon as number portability comes in. I really feel its time we consumers should unite and boycott such irritating marketers  – TEACH THEM A LESSON!

Update June 14th: Sunday morning and I receive 3 messages from Allen Solly before 9AM. Too much for me to tolerate – Visited their Oberoi Mall outlet and conveyed my frustration to the staff there. They took my number and promised I won’t receive any more messages. No Sms, No longer a Allen Solly customer – CASE CLOSED!

Startup Saturdays / HeadStart – What? Why? How?

Many of you would have been receiving mail from me inviting you to something called ‘Startup Saturdays’. Over the past few years I have been associated with a variety of events – from DJ nites (when I was in college) to NGO activities (Nischay). Over the past few months I have come across this amazing group called HeadStart.

So what is HeadStart? What exactly is StartupSaturday? Why is annkur here? How is it relevant to you/me? – I would take this opportunity to answer all these for you today!

Mr Ohio – Agra Trip

Guest post by my lovely sister: Anchal

Our journey to Delhi (coming back from Agra) was adventurous. Highly frustrated with the long wait at the Agra Railway Station…OMG our train was over an hour late. Bearing the heat was the biggest fear. We managed to find a seat in an air conditioned waiting room. I doubt if the AC was switched on. Anyways, after a long wait, we went to the platform to discover a non Indian chap even more frustrated. Hehe and Annkur couldn’t have missed clicking him; and, why not? They make movies on Indian slums, we just got a picture.

Getting electric shocks :(

electric-shocks

Ok so after much delay I have started some physiotherapy sessions to fix that strained ankle (and now knee). And just into my second day @physiotherapy they give me electric shocks! supposedly to strengthen the muscles.

{I swear, I didn’t flirt with the nurses here, so this must really be a part of the treatment 😛 }

Random thoughts again: Trust Matrix

… in middle of something, shit load of work on head before I head to Delhi in 12 days and out of no where I have something distracting me to the extreme. A thought on the lines of what I have been debating with myself over the past few years.

Dirt biking my way to office

img_2825

March 2009

I head towards my office one morning just to see that things have changed dramatically overnight. Some water pipeline is being laid and the whole road is being dugged. The constant drilling along with a hot summer can really irritate a peace loving geek.

And a couple of days later I find myself dirt biking my way to office. The rubble laid next to the dugged up road with stones all over …

Though its not too difficult climbing them on my bike, but people on the streets and cycles made things a little tricky. Thankfully the pain of drilling machines all day just under my nose was over in some 10 days, I though it would go on for months… Here are a few shots and a video.

Back from the past

I recently went to see a disaster of a movie, Aa Dekhen Zara. No I’m not going to waste anytime reviewing a movie on this blog (at least not anytime soon). There is this little incident during the intermission that left me with a little delight.

While standing in the Q to grab some popcorn I could see how uncivilized and indisciplined the well educated crowd can really be. Now this is not something we see at Fame or other big multiplexes. But this was SunCity….

As I struggled to politely try and request the popcorn vendor for some caramel there were these as***..s who would just jump in from here and there and hand over a gandhi chap note to them and hijack my place in the line. Just at that very moment I said to myself that my schooling has left me with a little more discipline and values than I need to survive in amchi Mumbai.

Just as I stood in that line thinking to abandon those combo coupons I had purchased for the popcorns, a lady appeared behind me to buy some popcorn. I instantly recognized her, she was the supervisor of our school. Though I never had the opportunity to study in any of her classes, I remember her as a strict and serious one. I immediately offered to help her across with the order and took the 2 coupons she was carrying and this time I somehow managed to sideline all the monkeys surrounding us to place that order. (…though I didn’t introduce myself as a Xaverite to her)

Lessons learnt:

  • Being organized and decent everywhere doesn’t help
  • Annkur follows the protocol and at times wrongly so
  • Annkur can fight better for others, but badly for himself!

Ok so BPL wants to get me a Date, but who the HELL asked for it?

bpl-chat

Back in June I had written about how BPL has got my blood boiling with thier buggy Missed Call alert service, and off late its thier excessive advertising that is irritating me. For example see the message above…

There is a slim chance that you would have read my cry for improving the Do Not Call Registry service back in July last year. Even after registering myself in the DND service several months back – I still recieve these automated advertisement calls from BPL. And what adds to my pain is the fact that a couple of my BPL sims (yes I have 4) are switched off at times and the calls are redirected to my cell. These adverisement calls come routed to my cell from these sims – So that means I PAY TO LISTEN TO THEIR ADVERTISEMENT.

Comeon BPL aka LOOP MOBILE – Get honest! I have been a customer for years now. Just as I say this, I pray to god that NUMBER PORTABILITY COMES TO INDIA ASAP
